When building a website, there are many paths that can be taken to achieve the desired result. Some prefer one path for various reasons (familiarity with the technology, belief that the technology is superior, limitations of alternate options, etc...) and others prefer another path for similar reasons. In most cases, which path is taken is irrelevant and a very similar result can be achieved regardless.

Frankly, I choose to use PHP, MySQL, and jQuery because they are open-source, well-documented, widely-used, stable, and highly flexible.
